BYD to launch electric taxi fleet in Bogota, Colombia by March 2013

Chinese battery technologies developer and manufacturer of electric trasnport vehicles BYD will launch an all-electric taxi fleet in Bagota, Columbia in collaboration with its distribution partner Praco Didacol.

The companu will supply 46 e6 electric vehicles to be employed as taxis in the capital city in addition to providing some to Bogotá's Technology, Science and Innovation Administration - Colceincias.

An approval from the District government has been secured for the all-electric Taxi pilot that seeks to improve the air quality in dense cities across the country.

In total 49 of BYD e6, 5-passenger, all-electric cross-over sedans have been accorded approval from the Colombia Ministry of Transportation to be employed as taxis.

Commenting on the initiative BYD senior vice president Stella Li expressed hope that the current fleet could be tripled by the end of 2013.

"BYD is very impressed with the leadership in Colombia and their vision to be a part of the new clean technology era with electrified public transportation," said Li.

The first fleet of eletric-taxis is expected to be on road by the end of March 2013
