California Energy Commission grants $5.79 to Wrightspeed
The California Energy Commission (CEC) has awarded $5.79 to US-based startup Wrightspeed for the manufacture of Advanced Vehicle Technology under its Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program.
This funding is expected to accelerate Wrightspeed's manufacturing of its Route retrofit powertrain for the large medium duty commercial fleet market.
Route retrofit includes a range-extending generator, geared traction drive and High-power plug-in battery system with active cooling, all working in tandem to allow fuel savings and thereby helps promote energy efficiency.
Wrightspeed earlier received $1.2m from CEC and has been successful in raising $10m as private equity in 2010 and 2011.
Besides the $5.79 funding to Wrightspeed, the CEC also handed out about $1.8m to Zero Motorcycles, $10m to Tesla Motors; and about $2.2m to Quallion LLC as part of the same program.
